The short film, “Evil People,” is 1 of 12 tracks off of Eli & Lu’s new cinematic mixtape, “Sound Mind.” “Evil People” examines how acts of evil is a learned behavior and mindset that has negatively impacted mankind. In this film, Lester, a psychopathic serial killer, admits his malicious deeds as he confronts his own sick mind while speaking directly to the audience. Through Lester, we see the influence we have on others, and how that influence can manipulate a person’s mind, moral, and behavior. Leaving one to wonder, “what are you putting into the world?” The film will play prior to Eli & Lu’s spoken word pieces.
The one man short film was shot at the historic Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. “We had to film there!” Says Lu. “That place has so much character, the team felt it would do our film justice, and we were right.” Although Eli and Lu are immune to quick filming, an independent filmmaker’s learned gift, The 5-minute monologue had to be shot in under an hour with precision. “The team had to be really efficient and quick on set. We had only booked the location for an hour, which included setup and breakdown,” Eli recalls. “We planned everything out prior, we even created a photoshop image of Lester’s cell, with our actor, Ken, in the photo for placement. For such a quick shoot, everything came out well.”
There will be a red carpet screening showing all 12 short films and spoken word tracks from the mixtape held in Philadelphia.
